MEGA exposed

Do you want to get inside information about MEGA? Did you ever wonder where all the exhibits come from? Want to know what kind of stuff MEGA have in their archive and what kind of archive it is? Interested in details that have not been made public before? Then listen to the latest podcast of SPIELECLUB.FM about MEGA (sorry, german only) here…

FM Towns @ MEGA archive

We are happy to add a super rare Fujitsu FM Towns to our archive. Like our several Sharp X68000 models this is a really cool japanese machine that was never released in Europe. The FM Towns was able to boot games and even operating systems from CD 7 years before Windows 95! This machine was fully brought back to live: Harddrive opened and repaired, CD-Drive adjusted and cleaned, monitor stand glued and metal enforced, all monitor modes adjusted, BIOS batteries removed and adaptors plus modern batteries added.

Ready to play!

New PokeCard512

A new version of the Pokemon Mini flash cartridge “PokeCard512″ is in the making. Again the card is limited, so make sure to pre-order yours in time. PokeCard512 allows you to store multiple homebrew productions at once and select them from a nifty menu. Please use the contact form if you like to pre-order.

T42² @ Spielzeugmuseum Riehen

From May 25th Tennis for Two will be exhibited and playable in the special exhibition “Press Start to Play – experience video games” at toy museum Riehen (Switzerland) for seven months. Especially for this exhibition a compact version of T42 has been developed which is displayed within a laboratory environment. The curator of the exhibition Dominik Marosi describes the installation as follows: “On a plate behind the Plexiglas wall with holes for laboratory gloves the controllers can be operated.” We are excited!

Wild compo @ Revision 2013

As part of the “Wild Competition” at this year’s Revision Easter Party, world’s most important demoscene event, “Code Red” by MEGA reached second place. We were not just showing the very first homebrew production ever for the Adventure Vision, our only 4 kilobytes small demo also used a specially-built BIOS that replaces the original bios and among other things allows the use of 3 instead of just 2 colors. At Revision MEGA also published the entire self-programmed toolchain for the Adventure Vision consisting of assembler, debugger, emulator and other tools. From now on everyone can code for this interesting and unique machine! More information can be found on the Adventure Vision page.

MEGA @ Revision 2013

Demoscene Exposed: Micro And Macro Ways Through The Maze. Introducing the MEGAontology to the demoscene.

As a digital subculture conditioned at a variety of levels from coding and encoding graphics to using algorithms to create music between an abundance of protocols for compression, the demoscene seems to be a huge maze to non-scene-participants. Artifacts and relevant context information are widely spread over the internet. Existing web-based platforms only allow a macro view on demoscene culture. This contribution provides a Semantic Web approach as a next generation perspective for the demoscene to make the maze of information more public, accessible and visible. An ontology-based framework allows integration, presentation, search and sharing of data from diverse sources to offer a micro view on demoscene materials.

Similar to SAPPHIRE NOW in Madrid at the SAP booth at CeBIT / Hall 4 from 5th to 9th of March 2013 the “History Wall: 40 Years of Inspiration” was presented featuring exhibits from MEGA.
